Our special courses and workshops focused on beekeeping and bee-related crafts provide a comprehensive way to deepen your knowledge and skills in this fascinating field.

Participating in courses and workshops can also connect you with other beekeepers and enthusiasts. This community aspect can be invaluable for sharing experiences, tips, and resources. Here are some key aspects you might explore in such programs:

Beekeeping Fundamentals

Many courses start with the basics of beekeeping, covering essential topics such as bee biology, hive management, and seasonal care. Participants learn how to set up and maintain hives, understand bee behavior, and recognize signs of healthy and unhealthy colonies.

Our Introduction to Beekeeping Course includes a full day on the history of beekeeping, the government requirements for beekeeping, bee diseases, hive management, hive tools, bee biology, etc. The second day is several hours of “hands-on” practical hive inspection with experienced beekeepers.

The course cost of $250 for non members and $175 for members covers both days of the course.

Venue for the course is Magpies Sports Club 40 Hampton Street, Croydon Park.

Advanced Beekeeping Techniques

Many programs also explore creative aspects of beekeeping, such as making beeswax candles, lip balms, and other products. These workshops can provide valuable skills for those interested in turning their beekeeping hobby into a small business or simply enjoying the craft aspect.

Pollinator Conservation

Some courses may cover the importance of bees and other pollinators in ecosystems, as well as strategies for supporting their health and habitats. This can include discussions on sustainable practices in gardening and farming that benefit pollinators.

Mead Making

Discover the ancient art of mead making in our dedicated workshops. Participants will learn the fundamentals of brewing mead, from selecting the right honey and ingredients to fermentation techniques and flavoring options. These sessions will cover the entire process, including bottling and aging, ensuring you can create your own delicious honey-based beverage. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced brewer, our mead making workshops offer valuable insights and hands-on experience to enhance your skills.
